Inspirational Sacrifice

To some, using the Anzac battle in Gallipoli to remember all Australians killed in military operations seems contradictory to 21st century Western society’s preoccupation with success, achievement and personal gain.

Secondary School camps: Challenge, community and connection

As I released the perfectly formed and sculptured snowball from my arm, I knew I was on target. It flew through the air with precision and collided shortly thereafter with the Year 12 student, disappearing into a cloud of snow. The smile upon my face said it all… snowball fight victory!

As I reflect upon this moment from Year 12 camp in Jindabyne this year and many others over the years at school camps, I am reminded once again of the value of camps. Camps are all about challengecommunity and connection.

Hope

Sadly, the English word ‘hope’ today has built into it the feeling of uncertainty - a sort of ‘fingers crossed’, ‘hope for the best’, aspect that seems to be devoid of any real confidence or assurance! The Greek word, ‘elpis’, on the other hand, is more focussed of the expectation of the fulfilment of a promise from a faithful, reliable, trustworthy source.

For Prayer and Praise

Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne. (Hebrews 12:1b-2)

  • Praise God for the refreshing school holidays.
  • Pray for patience and skill for teachers as they teach and guide the students this term.
  • Pray for good sportsmanship for the students representing the school in sporting events this term.
  • Pray for good, encouraging friendships in the playground and classrooms.
  • Thank God for Mother's Day next week, and pray loving wisdom, insight and endurance for the mothers and grandmothers in the school community.
