Fighting cyber warfare is a full time defence job
Australia’s defence force is winning the race to patch vulnerable code and detect software bugs before they bite.
In defence, preventing cyber-hacks is crucial, and there are loads of people working behind-the-scenes to protect potentially susceptible code.
Two of these cybersecurity professionals are Olivier de Vel and Paul Montague from DST’s Cyber and Electronic Warfare Division (CEWD), who have made seriously important advances in tools to focus the attention of security experts.
So how does software vulnerability impact IT security? Paul stresses that software vulnerabilities can be exploited for malicious gain – for example, releasing data, allowing a third party to take control of the software, or just causing it to go offline.

The digital SAT will be easier to take, easier to give and more relevant, although changes will not take place until next year for international test sites. Some of the changes will include:
o The digital test will last two hours rather than three with more time per question.
o There will be shorter reading passages with only one question per passage.
o Students will have the opportunity to use a calculator on the entire math section, and to use their own laptop or tablet on the testing day. Laptops will also be provided.
o Results will be released in days rather than weeks.
Students must still register for the test through the College Board which will continue to be held at designated testing centres on specific testing dates. The test will also continue to be proctored and will remain out of 1600 points.
