A love for learning

I was privileged to attend a conference with other principals in the city these past two days. What struck me was that despite the oodles of non-educational things that have to be done to keep a school running, the core of what we do as school leaders and school staff is to enable and nourish student learning.

Assessment and Reporting in the Junior School

Mr Paul Carter

As we approach the end of Semester One, here is a reminder of how we report student progress to parents in the Junior School. We believe that it is important to communicate the improvement and achievements of student’s as they progress throughout the year rather than solely at the end of each semester. This enables parents to be better informed of their child’s progress.

Mr Peter Richardson

Term 2 is an exciting time of year with many events and opportunities for students to learn and be challenged outside of the regular classroom. Over the last couple of weeks we have had numerous excursions, sporting events, debating finals and work experience for Year 10. As I reflect and look back on my high school experience, my strongest memories were often those outside of the classroom on various co-curricular activities.

"If we want children to read a lot, we must teach them to read well"

How do we teach children to read? One theory is that for children to read well they must read a lot. In the 80’s many educators got swept up in this concept.

Year 9 Drama excursion to Robot Song - Monkey Baa Theatre

On Friday, Year 9 Drama travelled to Monkey Baa Theatre in Darling Quarter to watch a performance of Robot Song. The innovative play, based on playwright Jolyon James’ experience of raising a child on the Autism Spectrum, poses and attempts to answer the question, ‘how do we support, foster and celebrate difference in our children in the face of an increasingly rigid and homogenised world?’.

Hope for burdened sinners

Rev Bruce Christian

I have been asked to preach on Psalm 38 in a few weeks, so this part of God’s Word has been occupying my thinking of late. On first reading, I felt my pastor had delivered me a ‘hospital pass’! But then I noticed how much of King David’s despairing drove me to take hold of wonderful New Testament promises.

For prayer and praise

Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvellous works among all the peoples! For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. Psalm 96:1-4

  • Pray for opportunities at school for students to be encouraging each other to look to the God, talk to God, and read his word.
  • Pray for teachers to be filled with patience, love and joy in the Lord as they teach, correct homework, mark exams, write reports and as they spend time at home with their own families.
  • Continue to pray for those in our school community who are suffering from illness or grief.
  • Pray for all the staff and students involved in the upcoming school musical, 'Aladdin Jr'.
  • Pray that God would raise up from the students many men and women who would have a passion to declare His glory among the nations.
