Funding and Fees

Mr David Stonestreet

I’m sure most parents are aware that the school has only two primary sources of income: school fees and government funding.

Government funding of schools is based on an index called “Capacity to Contribute” (CTC). The ATO have all the income data of you, our parents and they use that to rank the financial wealth of the parents in each school. They then use the median of that data to establish the CTC. Based on all of our parents’ incomes, we have a high CTC of 106 – the highest, we believe, of any CEN Christian School in NSW. For comparison, the similarly sized Tyndale Christian School near Blacktown has a CTC of 94, which would translate into millions of dollars more funding than us).

Reflecting on my time at Shire Christian School with gratitude

Mr Peter Richardson

Next week marks my final days at Shire Christian School—a place that has been like a second home to me for the past 13 years. Before I leave for the Asia trip with some of our wonderful Year 10 students on Saturday, 30 November, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my time here and express my deep gratitude to this incredible community of students, staff, and parents.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

At our school, we are dedicated to teaching our students the profound truth of trusting in our Creator and King. This lifelong lesson is one we intentionally weave into their spiritual growth. As they deepen their understanding of who God is and embrace His purpose for their lives, they begin to see His goodness and faithfulness more clearly.

Being ‘for peace’ when others are ‘for war’

Rev Bruce Christian

As I waited on the Lord for inspiration for a ‘Barnabas’ this week, I read the devotional for Friday 22 November in Tim & Kathy Keller’s ‘The Songs of Jesus’ - and I found it such helpful advice as I interact with our surrounding culture that I thought I would share it with the Shire Christian Community verbatim (it is on Psalm 120):

Parent Prayer Meeting – Friday 29 November

We need to pray. There is more to pray about than time to pray about it all.

Twice a term (Week 3 and Week 7), parents, grandparents, anyone interested in joining, are invited to come and pray together.

Our next meeting is on Friday at 8am (29 November). Younger children are welcome, coffee is provided. We finish promptly at 8:30am.

God is good. He longs to hear our prayers. Let’s make it a bigger group this year.

Whether you say a prayer, or just feel comfortable saying, “Amen”, at the end, please come and join us.

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Secondary School Cranmer House Fundraiser - Forever Projects – Friday 29 November

This term, we have been supporting Forever Projects through the Mt. Kilimanjaro Challenge. Forever Projects is an organisation dedicated to empowering vulnerable families, particularly in Tanzania, to break cycles of poverty and dependency by becoming self-reliant. They focus on sustainable, community-driven solutions, helping families build brighter futures.

So far, our students have raised over $2,000! That’s enough to provide nearly two women and their families access to a 12-month program, enabling them to become self-sustaining.

In the secondary school, we will be holding a Jersey Day fundraiser next Friday, 29 November. Students are invited to wear a sports jersey of their choice as part of their sports uniform (Years 7-10) or as the top half of their school uniform (Year 12) for a gold coin donation. Donations will be collected as students arrive at school on Friday morning.
