Seussical Jr. comes to a close after months of talent and hard work

It's hard to believe that the Seussical Jr. journey has come to an end for Junior School. We began planning towards the close of Term 2 last year, with auditions kicking off in the first week of Term 3. Rehearsals started mid-Term 3 and continued through to Week 8 of Term 1 – that's 21 weeks of dedication, including lunch times, recesses, sport breaks, and after-school sessions! I can’t even begin to calculate the countless hours invested in this production. Throughout it all, our students were nothing short of incredible, with their enthusiasm remaining unwavering.

Mr David Stonestreet

This week, we farewelled our esteemed Academic Head, Mrs Natalie Bluhdorn. I have worked alongside Natalie for over two decades, and she has brought great worth and passion to our staff, our students, and their learning at Shire Christian School, both as a teacher and a leader. May the Lord continue to guide Natalie in her future career endeavours as a Christian educator.

A Reflection for Easter

A volume that I keep near my desk at work is “The Valley of Vision – A Collection of Puritan Prayers and Devotions”. It contains a resurrection prayer of such passion and depth that in ending the term with a reflection on Easter, I don’t think I can do better than quoting a portion of it verbatim:

Reflecting on my journey at Shire Christian

Many years ago, all the way back in 1992, I began at this school as a Year 7 student. By the time I graduated in 1997, I never thought that the stage I stood upon to receive my graduation certificate (and memento of a school spoon!) would be the same stage that I would stand and address students from, 28 years later. What an absolute privilege to have been part of this unique community of believers and learners for such a significant proportion of my life.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Mr Paul Carter

Next term we will be holding our Junior School (for K-6) and Secondary Parent Teacher (for 7-11) interviews. Parents can select a face-to-face or an online meeting and be able to choose which evening and meeting type best suits them.

Online meetings will occur using Microsoft Teams. Parents will not require an app but will be able to access a link for each teacher interview.

Please make note of the dates below in your calendar.

K-6 parents have received an initial email this week to lodge their preferred evenings and prioritise the teachers they would like to see. Years 7-11 parents will receive their invites soon.

Mr David Collins

The Secondary assembly this week focused on Easter. It was a great chance to reflect on the real message of Easter, rather than just Hot Cross Buns and Easter Eggs. Our Gospel band, supported by the Vocal Group, led us in a song and we watched a video some of the Media students created. The guest speaker was Mr Brett Hookham, Lead Pastor from Menai Baptist Church. Brett focused on the concept of fear, and how the resurrection of Jesus can take fear away. The video produced by the Media students interviewed children in the playground, as well as some staff, reflecting on what scares them. There were some predictable answers, including snakes, cockroaches, needles and Maths tests.

Thank you for joining our Easter Assembly

Mrs Ruth Cooper

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and friends who joined us for our Easter assembly yesterday morning in the hall. It was such a joy to gather as a whole Junior School community to read from the Bible, sing praises to our great God, and reflect on the significance of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

We were especially blessed to hear from Kelly Peters, Verity Snaith, and our special guest ‘Scrap,’ who shared with our students why Good Friday could just as well be called Fantastic Friday!

Because He Lives

Rev Bruce Christian

When I ask someone, “How are you?”, it is not uncommon to receive the reply, “Well, I’m still in the land of the living.” Sadly, this answer is incorrect; we are NOT in ‘the land of the living’, we are in ‘the land of the DYING’. The Apostle Paul sums up the true situation for us quite unambiguously: “All [without exception] have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23); “just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people [without exception], because all sinned.” (Romans 5:12); “For as in Adam all [without exception] die, so in Christ all [without distinction - ie Jew and Gentile alike] will be made alive.” (1 Corinthians 15:22).

Weather forecast in SEQTA shows when summer uniform is permitted (Terms 2 and 3)

To make it easy for students and parents, from Term 2 on the home screen of SEQTA a weather forecast for the following day indicates whether summer uniform is permitted.

Warmer days with a forecast of 26 degrees and above permit students to wear summer uniform.

Families no longer need to rely on changing forecasts and varying sources, and must check the SEQTA forecast (sourced from the Bureau of Meteorology) before wearing the optional alternate uniform. The forecast updates at 3pm daily meaning it can be checked after school for the following day.

We hope this tool will help remove any ambiguity, making things simpler for students, teachers and parents.
