We last conducted this two years ago, and while we cannot meet every request or desire, it is always helpful to receive and review how our community thinks we are doing as a school and how we might do better in some areas for our students and families. Can I encourage you to take the time to participate in this, as the more parents involved, the broader the range of data we have to draw from in our analysis.
I’m pleased to share that the school has recently acquired the adjoining residential property at 17 Elliston Place, which was listed last month and went to auction on Saturday. It represents a strategic investment by the Board as we continue to make long-term plans for the school’s future.
The building committee and project management team are continuing their work to progress the sports field and car park project, which is hoped to begin during the school holidays. This project has had the complexities of being in the ground, under power lines, and adjacent to two Sydney Water mains pipes, but we believe we are close to resolving the final approvals and technical considerations.
This coming Monday, we warmly welcome Mrs Rachel Robinson as our next Academic Head, following the farewell of Mrs Natalie Bluhdorn at the end of last term.
I’m delighted to have Rachel join our team and look forward to the ways she will work alongside our staff and wider community to further strengthen and enrich the learning culture at Shire.

We are delighted to welcome the Performing Arts Concert Band from Linfield Christian School, arriving next Thursday afternoon, 26 June. Linfield is located in Southern California, just south of Los Angeles. We’ve enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the school, and this will be their fourth visit with us.
Two key highlights of their stay include:
We are extremely grateful to the generous families in our school community who are hosting the 29 visiting students and 2 staff members during their six-day stay in Sydney.
We look forward to sharing this enriching experience with our visitors and trust they’ll have a wonderful Aussie adventure during their time with us!

Deputy Principal
This week a large number of Year 9 students went out on their first Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey hike for their Bronze Level. While I am sure it was cold overnight, they have been blessed with some beautiful weather.
The Adventurous Journey is just one part of the The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award. Participants also need to show commitment over a period of time to physical recreation, skills and voluntary service. Over the next couple of months students who are involved in the Silver and Gold Levels will also complete practice and qualifying hikes. Our Gold students will be travelling to Byron Bay this year for their qualifying hike. I would like to express my thanks to the many teachers who are willing to attend these hikes. Special thanks to Mrs Wilcockson, Mrs Ho and our new consultant, Mr Hudson, for heading up Duke of Ed this year.
In the third week of the school holidays we will be opening up the school to Year 12 students to provide a quiet place to study. With the Trial HSC examinations starting in Week 2 next term, many local libraries are crowded with Year 12 students looking for a place to study. So therefore the school will be opening up classrooms that will provide a quiet place to study without the distractions that often get in the way at home. Teachers will be checking on the students periodically throughout the day, but no direct tutoring will be able to occur as the staff will be involved in Professional Development activities throughout the week. We know that establishing a strong study routine in the lead up to the examinations is vital for the students to demonstrate what they have learnt. More specific details for this week will be sent home to Year 12 students and their families before the end of the term.

Head of Secondary School
A solid and unwavering hope in Christ provides a deep sense of purpose and meaning. It lays the foundation not only for how we approach learning, but also for how we view life, with assurance in God's supreme sovereignty over all things.
Over the past few weeks, our Be program has reminded us that the Bible is the source of all truth — the lens through which we learn, grow, and understand the world God has made. In an uncertain world, only God can truly satisfy the deep longing for hope found in every human heart. This week, we’ve continued exploring what it means to have Hope in Christ, focusing on our Be of the week: Be full of hope and don’t give up. Our hope, motivation, and perseverance are not self-made but are deeply rooted and sustained by God, as we’re reminded in Romans 15:13.
What a privilege to enjoy two sensational musical recital evenings this week run by our Music department and our peripatetic tutors. It brought me such joy to see the brimming smiles on the faces of these students, who practise so diligently each week, having the opportunity to perform on stage. A huge thank you to the whole Music faculty, our fantastic tutors, our supportive families who came along and to our very talented and keen musicians! Well done!
I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the many students who have proudly represented our school in both team and individual sports events over the past month. Their dedication, commitment to training, and ongoing skill development have been clearly evident, and it has been a joy to celebrate their sportsmanship and achievements during our morning assemblies. A sincere thank you to our Junior School Sports Coordinator, Miss Ashleigh Hackfath, along with the many staff and families who generously give their time to coach, encourage, and support our students. Your efforts are deeply appreciated. Well done to all involved!
It’s been wonderful to see an increasing number of families enjoying time together on our front oval each afternoon, building friendships and a strong sense of community.
We kindly remind parents that students are not permitted beyond the cricket pitch or into the surrounding school grounds out of school hours. This is in place to ensure appropriate supervision and uphold our school’s duty of care.
Keeping students within this designated area allows them to remain in close proximity to you, making it easier for you to oversee their play safely. The students have been reminded about this as well. Thank you for your support and understanding.
We warmly invite all parents and caregivers to join us for our Term 2 Junior School Assembly on Thursday, 3 July, beginning at 8:50am. The morning will feature performances from both our Junior Concert Band and Training Band, a special song from Kindergarten, and a biblical devotion shared by a visiting speaker.
Our merit awards will be presented at our regular Friday morning assembly.
Mrs Ruth Cooper
Head of Junior School
We’re excited to announce a fresh new name for our beloved Junior School performance evening — SHINE.
This name reflects what the evening is about: a chance for our students to step into the spotlight, express themselves, and let their creativity shine. Whether it's music, dance, drama, or spoken word, SHINE is a celebration of our students and their God given gifts.
Auditions for SHINE are closing next Tuesday 24 June, so make sure you submit your one minute audition online.
We’re looking forward to a wonderful evening to celebrate our dedicated and talented young performers.

Shire Christian School delivered a dominant performance in the Sydney East semi final of the Bill Turner Trophy, defeating Moriah College 5-1 to secure their place in the regional final.
Shire got off to a flying start, scoring four goals in a commanding first-half display. Their attacking pressure and quick passing overwhelmed Moriah, who struggled to gain a foothold in the game. By halftime, Shire held a comfortable 4-0 lead.
Early in the second half, Shire extended their lead to 5-0 with another well-taken goal, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. Moriah showed more resilience as the game wore on, creating several chances in the second half and were rewarded with a late goal, finishing the match 5-1.
Overall, it was a confident and strong performance by each player from Shire Christian, who now advance to the next stage of the competition, taking on PLC in the Area Final of the 2025 Bill Turner trophy competition.
Congratulations to all the girls and Coaches Mr Holden and Mrs Hamilton on a strong season to date in both the CSSA and Bill Turner Competitions.

Evie led the way for our school at the CIS Cross Country Championships on Thursday, finishing an impressive 6th in the 2000m race with a time of 8:11.9 and qualifying for the PSSA State Championships. She was one of twelve students who represented our school with determination and sportsmanship across a range of events, making it a proud day for our whole community.
The morning began with a fresh chill in the air and a buzz of anticipation as the Senior School races kicked off.
Justin was first to compete, running an impressive 8000m and finishing in 30:18.8. He was followed by Zachary and Paul in the 6000m race, who pushed each other right to the finish with times of 25:31.4 and 25:51.4 respectively. Sam completed the 4000m course with a strong time of 14:06.2.
After lunch, our Junior School team arrived, ready and excited to race. The first event featured our 8–9 year old boys: Marty, Alexander, Frankie, and Jett tackled the 2000m run with determination, finishing in 8:57.8, 9:16.0, 9:31.9 and 9:33.7. Isla also ran the 2000m in a confident 9:31.0.
Next up was Evie, who delivered a standout performance in her race, finishing the 2000m in 8:11.9 and securing an outstanding 6th place. Finally, Campbell and Izabella represented our school in the 3000m race, with times of 12:24.6 and 15:51.6.
All our students demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, perseverance and school spirit throughout the day. A special congratulations to Evie, who has qualified to represent both our school and the CIS at the PSSA State Championships on July 23rd! This is a tremendous achievement — placing in the top 6 runners across all Combined Independent Schools.
We are so proud of you, Evie, and we’ll be praying for you and cheering you on all the way!

On Wednesday, sisters Izabella (Year 6) and Emily (Year 2) represented Shire Christian School at the CSSA Women’s Gymnastics Championship with outstanding results. Competing in different levels, both girls impressed with their skills, sportsmanship and enthusiasm — Izabella claiming first place in every Level 7 event, and Emily showing courage and determination as the youngest competitor in her Level 4 group.
Emily – Year 2
I competed in the Level 4 competition. I was the youngest in my age group — everyone else was 9! We did bars, vault, beam and floor. Beam is my favourite because I do handstands on it, and I usually stick them without falling off. I like gymnastics because you learn cool new skills and have fun with your friends. Since it’s still early in the season, this competition was a good chance to practise for the rest of the year. I really liked doing the competition with my sister Izabella because she helps me when I get stuck.
Izabella – Year 6
I had a really clean competition. I came first in all four events in the Level 7 competition — beam, vault, bars and floor — and I also came first overall! We had to wake up at 5:50am because the competition started at 7am. I was really happy with how I went and with my results. The best part of the day was having fun with my friends and coach (and learning that onions can stop you from getting wrinkles!). I want to encourage other people to have fun doing their sport and to always follow their dreams.
The recent CSSA State Netball Gala was a fantastic display of talent, determination, and true team spirit from all our Secondary School Shire Netball girls.
Our U15's team took to the court with energy, playing seven fiercely competitive matches. They secured five strong wins and pushed through two hard-fought losses, finishing an impressive 3rd in their pool. From the very first whistle, every player gave 100% - showcasing outstanding skills, teamwork, and resilience. The team should be incredibly proud of their efforts - it was a big day, and they represented their school with pride and passion.
Mrs Emma Hamilton
U15's Coach
Our Opens team showed outstanding determination and teamwork as they competed in a challenging pool. Facing strong opposition across all matches, the team displayed great sportsmanship, energy, and resilience on court. Out of six tough games, they secured two impressive wins and remained competitive in every match. With clever passes, tight defence, and sharp shooting, the team worked hard and never gave up. Their efforts earned them a well-deserved 5th place. We are proud of their commitment, positive attitude, and the way they represented our school.

I found this passage from Dane Ortlund’s book, ‘Deeper’ very helpful so I will share it for ‘Barnabas’ this week:
“The Bible not only corrects us; it also oxygenates us. We need a Bible because we are not only wrong in our minds but also because we are empty in our souls.
This is why I like the metaphor of breathing. Taking a big breath into our lungs fills us with fresh air, gives us oxygen, calms us down, provides focus, and brings mental clarity. What inhaling does for us physically, Bible reading does for us spiritually.
In this shifty, uncertain world, God has given us actual words. Concrete, unmoving, fixed words. We can go to the rock of Scripture amid the shifting sands of this life. Your Bible is going to have the same words tomorrow that it does today. Friends can’t provide that - they will move in and out of your life, loyal today but absent tomorrow. Parents and their counsel will die. Your pastor will not always be available to take your call. The counselor who has given you such sage instruction will one day retire, our maybe you’ll move out of state. But you can roll out of bed tomorrow morning and, whatever stressors slide uncomfortably across your mental horizon as you groan with the anxieties of the day, your friend the Bible is unfailingly steady. It lies there, awaiting opening, eager to steady you amid all the unanswered questions before you that day. It will give you what you need and not evade you. Our truest wisdom and only safety is to build our lives on its words.
In fact, we should not be saying ’it’ but ‘he’. Through Scripture God himself addresses us. The reason the Bible does not shift and move is that God does not shift and move. Your Bible is not just the best book there is among all the books out there. The Bible is a different kind of book. It’s of another class. It is similar to other books in that it is bound between covers and is filled with small black letters comprising words throughout. But the Bible is different from other books in the way rainfall is different from your garden hose - it comes from above and provides a kind of nourishment far beyond what our other resources can provide.
Why? Because the Bible’s author is God, and God knows exactly what will nourish us. Yes, human authors wrote the actual books of the Bible. But they “spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21). Did God or humans write the Bible? Both - in that order. God told Jerermiah, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth (Jeremiah 1:9). That’s precisely the way to understand Scripture: God put his words in human mouths. The words are truly God’s, but he gave them through the distinct personalities and word banks of the human authors. This is why the simple elegance of John can differ markedly from the tense earthiness of Mark or the flowery, lengthy sentences of Paul, while all three are truly and fully speaking God’s own words.”
Dane Ortlund has certainly encouraged me to be more positive, intentional and expectant in my daily Bible reading. I hope he does that for you, too. The Bible will always be a Firm Foundation.

Students can collect a yearbook from Student Services if they missed out. Yearbooks are being posted to our Year 12 Class of 2024 if they do not still have a sibling at school.
Thanks for your patience while we finalised this wonderful memento.
