$20,550 raised for birthing medical supplies in Uganda

What a generous and servant hearted school community we have! As one of the key aspects of our school mission statement, service is fundamental to us here at Shire Christian School, as we seek to educate students for a life of learning, service and purpose, to the Glory of God.

Over the course of this year so far, our school has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Leukemia Foundation, Hands at Work, Compassion and most recently the Love Mercy Foundation. Across May, many of our students have been taking part in the May Mother Run challenge. Together, with many generous donations, they have managed to raise $20,550!

This money will go directly towards providing essential equipment and medical supplies needed for safe births at the Kristina Health Centre in remote northern Uganda. A couple of weeks ago we were fortunate to have former Olympic runners Eloise Wellings and Julius Achon visit our school assembly to share more about this foundation and how it helps keep women and babies alive in impoverished communities. They both also shared with us about how faith plays out in their lives and what it looks like to them to seek a greater purpose.

If you would still like to donate to the Love Mercy Foundation, you can do so here. Thanks to everyone for your support and a BIG shout out to Sam Poppett and Annie Bell of Year 11 who have passionately organised and promoted it from the outset. That’s what we call servant leadership!
