I was privileged to attend a conference with other principals in the city these past two days. What struck me was that despite the oodles of non-educational things that have to be done to keep a school running, the core of what we do as school leaders and school staff is to enable and nourish student learning.
We can have music ensembles, overseas tours, sporting prowess and all the other things, but the foundation under this is the desire that our students (your children) come through Shire Christian developing a love for learning and a curiosity and wonder for life and God’s creation.
I am pleased to announce that Mrs Natalie Bluhdorn, who has been our Acting Academic Head this year, covering curriculum and assessment in the absence of the Deputy Principal position, will be continuing in that role. Natalie is currently leading a group of teachers in a research project to examine the current learning foundations and framework of our school, so we can plan the most effective way forward to build and improve teaching and learning. We will shortly be advertising for the now vacant Deputy Principal role.
Sadly, we are farewelling Mr Nathan Asher at the end of this term. Nathan has served Shire Christian faithfully in our Secondary School for seven years and he will be greatly missed. We do rejoice however, that he is taking up a senior leadership position in Christian education as the Head of Secondary at Nowra Christian School. Our prayers are that God would continue grow Nathan as a leader, servant and teacher.
Mr David Stonestreet
Principal
