Olympic runners visit Secondary assembly: Students encouraged to seek their purpose

It was a blessing to welcome former Olympic runners Eloise Wellings and Julius Achon as special guests to our Secondary School assembly today, in support of Love Mercy's Mother Run, this term's Calvin House fundraiser.

Capably interviewed by Year 11 students Sam and Annie, Eloise and Julius spoke about their experience as long distance runners for the Olympics and how their faith plays out in their lives.

Julius described how he started to run to help him gain his education and regaled us with a funny story of accidentally bringing two left shoes to a race early in his running career.

Eloise encouraged us to seek our greater purpose but to remember that we can find purpose in the everyday small actions of kindness that we show to others.

We learnt about how previous funding through the Mother Run event has helped keep women and babies alive in impoverished communities in Northern Uganda over the past few years.

This year the funding is going towards a new ultrasound machine that will show the blood flow between the placenta and the baby.

Thank you to our wonderful students and staff who are supporting this event, both in running and donating funds. We look forward to seeing what God will do.

Mrs Kathryn Breen
Assistant Head of Secondary
