Experienced and innovative Christian educator Mr Phil Gallagher joined the school this term as Director of Studies, a key role in enabling all students to flourish and aim for success in their learning, while ensuring patterns of study are compliant and aligned to the school’s values.
With over 15 years of prior experience in leadership positions at Christian schools, including roles as a wellbeing advisor and faculty leader, Mr Gallagher more recently served in senior leadership roles such as Assistant Head of Senior School at Pacific Hills Christian School and Head of Middle School at St Philip's Christian College in the Hunter Valley.
After relocating back to Sydney, Mr Gallagher joined Oran Park Anglican College as Head of Learning and Innovation and then Head of Teaching and Learning and Deputy Head of Senior School, leading the implementation of the Habits of Powerful Learners program.
Mr Gallagher comes from a financial services background and has a passion for teaching Business Studies and Legal Studies in Year 11 and 12. Additionally, he brings broad curriculum experience having taught a variety of other HSIE subjects, as well as Science and Maths. He is an active member of Menai Anglican Church and enjoys sports and coffee, even going as far as roasting his own coffee beans.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing school community, where the values of God and His word are deeply integrated into our journey,” Mr Gallagher said.
“As the Director of Studies, I look forward to assisting students and parents in their educational pursuits, providing steadfast support through learning, subject selection, the HSC and preparing them for a life of learning.
“I am excited to play a significant role in the next chapter at Shire Christian School. Together, we will focus on nurturing the gifts and abilities God has placed in each student through fostering an environment where learning, knowledge, skill development and the biblical narrative are seamlessly intertwined.”
Academic Head Mrs Natalie Bluhdorn said it was a delight to welcome Mr Gallagher to the school in this role.
“Having a Director of Studies will ensure that the oversight and administration of our student learning experience is managed in an even more personal and strategic manner,” she said.
“Phil's experience in the academic field will be invaluable when assisting teachers and students with their pattern of study.
“I am also looking forward to his insights into student data and how this helps to refine the learning culture of our school.”
With subject selections and end-of-year assessments fast approaching, the addition of Mr Gallagher will be greatly beneficial to the students at Shire Christian School.
