Year 11 Biology students explore mangroves in virtual field trip

Year 11 Biology enjoyed the opportunity to participate in a field trip on Wednesday, investigating an ecosystem at Bobbin Head – virtually of course. The students explored mangroves and completed field work to apply their knowledge of biotic and abiotic factors in an ecosystem and studied the importance and adaptations of mangroves.

Online media including virtual tours, 360-degree photos and interactive activities helped to engage students, providing the next best alternative to exploring in the real world.

Biology teacher, Mrs Clara Wilcockson, guided students throughout the day via Zoom, with some work self-paced and other work completed in groups.

While students and teachers long to be back in the classroom and out in the field soon, innovative initiatives continue to progress learning at Shire Christian School.
