FONO celebrates 21st year with packed audience

For One Night Only celebrated its 21st year last week, showcasing the depth of achievement in our music department. The audience, the largest that we have had in over 5 years, was thoroughly entertained by some of our Encore nominated HSC performers, our music classes and ensembles, as well as Shire Christian’s very own dance groups.

Has the curriculum in NSW become overcrowded?

Mr Brett Hartley

When I first started teaching in the early 1990s I really wanted my students to do well in their tests and assignments, so I invested a lot of time preparing lessons. I tried a range of techniques and created different resources to cater to individual learning needs so that students could remember content and understand concepts. Despite my efforts, the students’ results in those first few years of teaching weren't quite as strong as I had hoped. Thankfully I discovered the power of effective feedback, where I thought strategically about how to give students advice on how to improve the quality of their work.

Orientations for our new little ones!

During recent weeks we have welcomed our new 2020 Prep and Kindergarten students and their families to our school. It is extremely exciting and encouraging to have our three Kindergarten classes full for 2020. The children were able to settle into the learning spaces smoothly and begin to feel familiar with their classrooms, the playground and meet teachers.

2020 budget and fee schedule approved

At the company General Meeting on 7 November, the 2020 budget was previewed by Association members and the fee schedule approved for the coming year.

Fee increases are required each year to meet the increasing operational costs of the school. The largest cost of operating the school is staff salaries which account for almost 80% of expenditure. Salaries are determined by a federally-approved enterprise agreement which provides for annual percentage increases and increases based on years of experience.

Faithfulness is what matters

Rev Bruce Christian

At my age, I find that an activity that accounts for a fair number of entries in my diary is attending the funerals of old friends and colleagues. I have just come home from one such funeral, of a colleague in ministry from over 10 years ago.

For Prayer and Praise

  • Continue to pray for the HSC students as they go out into the world having finished school.
  • Pray for the Year 9 & 10 students as they sit their yearly exams next week.
  • Praise God for the many differing gifts He’s given so many students in areas of sports, music, the visual arts, academic studies, etc.
  • Pray for any students who are struggling with friendships at school.
  • Continue to pray for all those who are grieving, especially the Hazlewood family.
