Vale – Greg Smith (1974 - 2020)

My connection with Greg Smith, both as a colleague and a dear friend, stretched decades. I had been teaching HSIE at William Carey Christian School for a few years when Greg arrived in late 1990s as a new graduate teacher. I later moved on, but only a few years passed before Greg and I were working together again at Inaburra School. Greg joined the team at Shire Christian School in 2016.

Mr Paul Carter

It has been a privilege to work with Mr Greg Smith in recent years. I will miss him as a friend and as a colleague. We would often meet to discuss, evaluate and brainstorm ways we can serve our staff, care for the students and provide an engaging learning environment at our school. Greg was passionate about the Gospel, Christian Education and caring for people. We often enjoyed a laugh and encouraged each other in our roles. My thoughts and prayers are with Nicole, her sons, extended family and friends.

God does the work - to HIM be all the glory

Rev Bruce Christian

I recently reflected on the life of a man who had attended a church where I had ministered. Over many years he had sat in the pew each Sunday ‘listening’ to my preaching. I put ‘listening’ in inverted commas because he had a significant hearing problem, and I was never sure whether anything I said actually registered with him. Some time after I moved from that Church it was necessary for him to move into a nursing home, and a member of the congregation continued to visit him there. During these visits, and no doubt as a result of them, he came to a living faith in the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour, and took every opportunity to share the Good News of this discovery with anyone who was willing to listen.

For Prayer and Praise

Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.” - Psalm 33:20-22 (ESV)

  • Praise God for his help and his steadfast love. Pray that we will put our trust in his holy name and hope in him.
  • Give thanks for the life of Greg Smith and for the impact he had on so many.
  • Pray for those grieving, that they would find comfort in Jesus. Pray particularly for Greg's wife Nicole, their two boys Ethan and Liam, and the rest of the family.
