Inaugural HR Manager employed: Our staff are “our most valuable resource in student learning and wellbeing”

Mrs Gillian Cross commenced employment as the school’s first Human Resources Manager this term, a role with many responsibilities, but one which ultimately seeks to contribute to a positive and productive workplace culture.

With over 150 employees at Shire Christian School, Mrs Cross hit the ground running, overseeing areas including employee wellbeing, workplace health and safety, recruitment, onboarding, compliance and policy and HR administration.

Mrs Cross joins the school with a valuable HR background in the commercial sector, previously working at Qantas and Toyota, and most recently for Integricare, a not-for-profit Christian organisation which operates preschools and long day care centres.

Mrs Cross said she was excited to be the inaugural HR employee at Shire Christian.

“I am excited to join Shire Christian School and work alongside the passionate team of teachers and support staff,” she said.

“I look forward to building strong working relationships and am thankful for the warm welcome I have received thus far from the Shire Christian School community.”

Living in Illawong with her husband and three children, the Cross’ are a part of Menai Baptist church.

Principal Mr David Stonestreet said he was “excited at the addition of this role – enhancing the good management and support of our most valuable resource in student learning and wellbeing – our staff”.

Mrs Cross will play an important role in fostering Christian community at Shire Christian. A strong and united team of teachers and support staff is vital in seeing students flourish.
