New sports facilities and playground areas

A freshly turfed play area and new sports facilities were ready for students to enjoy when they returned to school this year. Two new basketball courts, a full-sized cricket pitch and three synthetic sports courts will enable more sports including volleyball, netball, European handball and hockey to be played in 2018.

Mr Askew, Head of PDHPE, said that the new facilities would provide a fantastic teaching space and that the physical education staff were excited at the prospect of teaching on the new courts.

He said that the facilities were of a very high standard, offering students great new sporting opportunities.

“With many of our student body passionate about football, the new synthetic courts in particular, will be a great asset to the school.”

“The adjacent hardcourts will also provide a fantastic teaching space for basketball, netball and Newcomb ball.”

“We are hoping to see many students involved in developing their own lunchtime competitions as well as the variety of other sports and activities during PE lessons and sport sessions.”

“We are very appreciative of the school leadership in recognizing this development as a priority and building a facility which will provide so many benefits.”

Additionally, a new, freshly turfed play area will serve students well into the future.

Site manager, Craig Wilson, said that the new works were going to be a great asset for the school.

“It will be excellent for the students, they’ve just got so many more [play area] choices.”

“We’ve had something done for the infants, the Junior School and the Secondary School as well.”

A new computerised irrigation system, with rain sensor, will ensure the oval and grassed areas remain green and soft all year round, providing a great environment for children to play in.
