We hosted an ‘Industry Connections’ Careers Exposition for our Year 9 students, preparing them as they explore work experience opportunities for next year. We invited more than 10 different organisations to our school including Yamaha Motor, Sydney Trains Engineering & Maintenance Directorate, Greater Sydney Commission, First Steps Learning Academy, Surveying Taskforce and more, who formed part of the mini-expo.
Following the mini-expo each student then had a 10-minute careers-related conversation with one of the organisations. Students agreed that learning to talk about themselves in an interview setting would be helpful when approaching future employers about work experience or even a part-time job. The event was a success with many students wishing to continue meeting the employers and learning about different occupations beyond their allocated time slots, several comments were “The employers are all so nice” and “I hope that it will be this easy in the real-world”. Well done Year 9!
