After bowing out of the Bill Turner Trophy last week against Woolooware, the U15 Shire Christian girls team had an incredible day out at the CSSA gala day on Thursday, beating Inaburra in the final to progress to state.
On a cold and eventually rainy day we turned up to The Ridge. We were drawn against St George Christian School and Macarthur Adventist College in our pool games and after topping the group we were drawn against Oran Park Anglican College in the semi final. The girls played a very attacking game and took a good lead into the halftime break which became too much for the opposition. This put us into the final against Inaburra and after a hard-fought game the Shire girls came out on top to be crowned the South Met Zone Champions. This result will now see the girls compete at the CSSA State Football Finals next term.
A special thanks to the parents that braved the elements to come and cheer on the team.
The week prior, the team competed in the semi final of the Bill Turner Trophy Sydney East division against Woolooware High School. Unfortunately, the game didn’t go to plan but the girls proudly represented the school and they showed great determination to overcome a slow start to the game.

Open Girls pipped at the post
On a glorious day last week the Open Girls football team competed in the CSSA South Met Zone Football day, playing well in the round games and finding themselves in the finals against Inaburra.
It was a very close game and at halftime we were tied at 1-1. We eventually went down 2-1 at the final whistle. The girls gave their all and I'm so thrilled in the way they played.
Thank you girls for all your efforts, you should be proud of yourselves.
Special thanks to our departing Year 12 girls Annie, Brianna, Isabella, Laiana and Thea. Your efforts over the years have been outstanding and you will be missed.
Mrs Leanne Dipple
Open Boys also miss out
Similarly, under the coaching of Peter Richardson, our Open Boys team had a great day at the gala day, also narrowly going down to Inaburra in the final.
U15 Boys learn valuable lessons
Our U15s Boys Team didn’t make it through the round stage at their gala day, with a loss to St George and a draw with Macarthur Adventist, but showed great sportsmanship and commitment and will be better for the experience.
